The WorkSource - Gulf Coast Workforce Board is the local board of directors for The WorkSource, which serves 13 counties in the Houston-Galveston region. In addition to being the largest of 28 local boards in the State of Texas, The WorkSource - Gulf Coast Workforce Board plans and oversees the delivery of employment services, education, and training. Its local system is one of the largest in the nation.

Workforce BoardThe board itself is business-led, with a majority of its 63 members representing the private sector. Other board members come from labor and community-based organizations, education, economic development organizations and state agencies. The board sets policy and annually directs expenditures that underwrite services for more than 90,000 businesses and 4.5 million residents in the region.

In 2007, The WorkSource system served more than 20% of the 121,000 businesses in the region. It recruited, screened and referred candidates to fill almost 50,000 open jobs, and it provided current economic and labor market data, human resource consulting and outplacement services for 6,997workers from 67 companies.
Through its region-wide network of local offices, The WorkSource served more than 410,000 individuals, helping more than 200,000 people go to work or get a better job, including almost 20,000 welfare recipients; 34,000 veterans; and 4,000 ex-offenders.
The WorkSource supported early education and care for 30,000 children through financial aid to their parents and guardians, and it spent more than $115 million in financial aid for all of its customers, helping them go to school, buy clothing or tools to go to work, and pay for transportation needs and child care expenses.
Since 2005, The WorkSource has provided employment services to over 30,000 individuals from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita who registered in WorkInTexas.com.
